Stephen Thomas Case

Our class lost a beloved member and friend with the death of Stephen Case on February 18, 2004.

Steve was a generous, fun-loving, kind, and mature person, who exemplified the best qualities of friendship to all who knew him. He lived, loved, and worked with intensity and dignity as well as with a wonderful and unique sense of humor.

Steve loved his time at Princeton. He was a much-admired Resident Advisor in Wilson College, a member of Campus Club, and an Outdoor Action leader. For his senior thesis, Steve studied English Garden History with Dr. Christopher Thacker at Cambridge University. Steve graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Architecture.

While Steve pursued a Masters of Architecture at the Yale University School of Architecture, he met classmate Yvonne Galindo. After they married, Steve and Yvonne traveled to Finland, where Steve was a Fulbright Fellow studying the architectural sculpture of Eliel Saarinen, Armas Lindgren, and Hermann Gesellius in the context of the Art Nouveau movement in Scandinavia. Steve went on to complete his MBA as a Park Leadership Fellow at the Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Management. Throughout his studies, Steve was a memorable and outstanding talent who developed lasting relationships with his mentors and who himself became a valued mentor to many. In his career, Steve was a creative force, designing print- and Web-based projects for a variety of purposes and people. For the last two years, Steve had been working as senior architecture editor at Rizzoli International Publications in New York City.

As gifted as Steve was, perhaps his most enduring quality was the genuine warmth and acceptance he offered to those he knew. We mourn his passing, we miss him deeply, and we will love and remember him always.

Steve’s wife Yvonne and his family Reginald and Bonnie Case, Jennifer Case ‘95, Sarah and Len Wright welcome Steve’s classmates to share their memories of Steve with them. Yvonne can be reached at archgalindo@aol.com. Steve’s family may be contacted at bonniecase@aol.com. Friends and family have established the Stephen T. Case ’89 Memorial Fund to honor Steve’s abiding interest in architecture and education; contributions can be sent to the following address:
